![]() “Hi, Nikki” said Thomas, “I wasn’t expecting to see you for a while, how are you?”. “Hi, Thomas” Nikki said as she stepped into his office. “I think I’m going to go and see Thomas” said Nikki before hobbling on her crutches to Thomas’ office, leaving Jack and Clarissa to chat. Jack lifted Nikki and stood up whilst supporting her so she could get her crutches. “Nice to see you too, Clarissa” giggled Nikki, “Jack was missing me”. Nikki lifted her head away from Jack’s neck and looked at Clarissa. They sat together for while before Clarissa wheeled herself in. She breathed in the smell of his aftershave. He wrapped his arms round her, and she nuzzled her face into the side of his neck. He lifted Nikki up and sat in her chair before lowering her on to his lap. “I’ve been missing you too” he said coyly. He lent forward and kissed her, softly at first but then more passionately. Jack stood up from the desk and then bent down in front of Nikki. Nikki grabbed his hand and entwined her fingers in his. “It’s nice to see you all dressed up and smiling” he said. Nikki practically collapsed into the seat, exhausted from using the crutches all morning. “Come here” he said as he helped her into a chair. “I was missing you and it was doing my head in staring at the same four walls day after day” she replied, rolling her eyes. “Hey, what are you doing here?” smiled Jack. He was sat in his chair, working on his computer. Rounding the corner, she walked into the office she shared with Jack. She got herself into the lobby and up to the doors of the lab. The taxi dropped her right outside the doors of the Lyell. She ordered a taxi, got herself dressed and hobbled to the curb on her crutches. It would also be a nice break from being stuck at home. Then, one morning, Nikki decided to go to the Lyell because if Jack couldn't come to her why couldn't she go to him. Jack had tried to visit her as often as he could but with work taking up most of his time, he only made it once or twice a week. She’d slept next to him every night that she’d been at his house, and it was the most relaxed and safe she’d ever felt. Meanwhile, Nikki was getting increasingly frustrated and had been missing Jack terribly. They did have DNA taken from blood spatter found on Stephen’s sweater during the original investigation but it hadn’t brought up any matches on the database when they’d run it. They had also started trying to find Stephen’s killer. They’d managed to get his records from the army after Thomas’ enquiries had revealed his was an ex-serviceman who’d been on a number of special missions hence the need to protect his identity. ![]() Thomas and Clarissa had managed to identify the fingerprint on Nikki’s belt as belonging to Stephen Mills’ brother, Aidan Mills whom Stephen had been estranged from for about 15 years. ![]() She was finally on the mend and back living in her own house and Jack was back working at the Lyell. Five days later and despite still needing her crutches, the bandage on Nikki’s leg had been replaced by a much smaller non-adhesive dressing. ![]()
